Refinishing isn't instant, but it also doesn't have to take over your life. Here's a realistic timeline so you can plan around it.
A typical refinishing timeline
- Prep and isolation, we protect the space and set up dust containment.
- Sanding, we take the floor down to fresh wood and repair as needed.
- Stain, if you're changing color, we apply and let it set.
- Finish coats, two or more coats of sealer with dry time between each.
- Cure and clean-up, the finish hardens and we hand back a clean home.
For most homes, that runs about three to five days depending on square footage, the number of coats, and dry time between them. Bigger areas and custom stain colors add time.
When can you use the room again?
- Light foot traffic is usually fine about a day after the final coat.
- Furniture goes back a little later so it doesn't mark the finish.
- Rugs go down last, once the finish has cured.
We give you exact timing for the finish we use, and we commit to a firm completion date up front. On time is part of the deal.
